Our Mission

XLScholastics College Planning and Consulting is focused on guiding our students through a process of introspection and articulation in a stress free and compassionate environment with their happiness, well-being and success as our highest priority.

We want our students to feel comfortable to ask questions, voice their concerns and their ambitions so that together we can find the best college or university, where they will thrive and grow into successful leaders of tomorrow. At XLScholastics we do not believe in the "packaging" metaphor that is sometimes used by college consultants to describe their work. We see our students as individuals who are about to make the first major decision of their life- where they will go to college. We also understand that this process is stressful for not only the student but the entire family. We want to work together with the student and the parents to achieve a balance that will culminate in happiness and ultimately success.

Meet your Advisor: Shernaz Mohanty

I became interested in the college application process after being very involved with my two sons' own journey beginning in 2009. I have always been an active parent interested in supporting my sons in every way possible, and was keenly aware that this would be one of the most important decisions they would make. I knew that a successful application process must start early and along with my sons, I visited numerous campuses and spoke with various professors, academic counselors and current college students in an attempt to find the "best fit" for them. Today, they are both very successful individuals and happy in their chosen fields. My interest in the college application process continued informally, at first, when other students and parents approached me for advice and help. Eventually XLScholastics College Planning and Consulting was born.

A popular tutor and teacher for many years, my resolve to become a college consultant resulted out of a passion for working with students as well as an interest in helping young adults take this pivotal step towards their future career. I work with a limited number of students each year mostly through referrals and have successfully placed students in their top choices as well as highly competitive direct medical programs.

By degree, I am a CPA who started my career in the Audit and Compliance area of Deloitte and then in corporate tax for MCI Communications. Having a professional background additionally helps me advice students on how to select a university that best suits their career aspirations. I aim to share my knowledge and expertise with all students and parents in a compassionate and stress free environment, with each student's happiness, well-being and success as my priority.
